In the history of video games with story lines, many games required you to follow a predetermined story line in a very specific sequence of events all set in place by the developer. Invisible walls boxed the player in to a confined space where his interactions with the environment, objects and NPC's were very limited. Story progression only occurred when the player took the 'correct' action. The developers of a few games of recent have set out to change this fixed-story line paradigm. It sounds as though Bethesda has attempted to do this as well as provide a very dynamic combat system to allow players to truly take control of the story in the upcoming title, Dishonored.
Check out the play style comparison videos after the jump.
In the videos below, the Co-Creative Directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith will talk us through two very different play styles and show us only a few of the many abilities you will be able to leverage in the game. The first video demonstrates a stealth play through where as little lethal force as possible is used to complete the mission. The second video shows us a play through of the same level using a brute force approach with a bit more footage detailing the combat system.
Dishonored launches on 10/9/12. For more videos, stills and info visit Bethesda's Dishonored site.
